Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

Glen Coe features prominently in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004) and subsequent films in the franchise. The dramatic landscape provided the backdrop for Hagrid's hut and the wider Hogwarts grounds.

The area around Clachaig Gully and the floor of Glen Coe was used for exterior shots of the approach to Hagrid's hut. The Three Sisters and surrounding peaks appear repeatedly in establishing shots of the Scottish Highlands around Hogwarts.

The nearby Glenfinnan Viaduct (the famous "Harry Potter bridge" where the Hogwarts Express crosses) is about 30 miles west, making it easy to combine both locations in a day trip.

For Potter fans, the combination of Glen Coe's dramatic scenery and the Glenfinnan Viaduct makes this area a pilgrimage destination. The landscape genuinely looks like it belongs in a fantasy world — which is exactly why the filmmakers chose it.
