Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975) — one of the most beloved comedies ever made — used Glen Coe for several iconic scenes, including the Bridge of Death sequence and the approach to Castle Aaargh.
The Gorge of Eternal Peril, where the Bridgekeeper asks his three questions ("What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?"), was filmed in Glen Coe. The dramatic scenery provides a perfectly absurd contrast to the comedy.
Castle Stalker, visible from the A828 between Ballachulish and Oban, appears as "Castle Aaargh" in the film's climactic scene. While not technically in Glen Coe, it's just 20 minutes' drive away and clearly visible from the road.
For Python fans, standing in Glen Coe and knowing that the Pythons were here — cold, wet, on a tiny budget, creating comedy gold — adds a layer of joy to an already spectacular place.
