Rob Roy
Released the same year as Braveheart, Rob Roy (1995) starring Liam Neeson tells the story of Rob Roy MacGregor, the 18th-century Highland outlaw. Glen Coe and the surrounding area provided key filming locations.
The film makes extensive use of the real Highland landscape, and Glen Coe's dramatic scenery features in several sequences. The area around Glen Etive, Rannoch Moor, and the glen itself all appear.
Rob Roy is often considered the more historically accurate of the two 1995 Highland epics, and its use of genuine Highland locations (rather than Ireland, as Braveheart largely did) gives it a particular authenticity.
The real Rob Roy MacGregor lived in the early 18th century, just 30 years after the Glencoe Massacre, in the same world of clan politics, cattle raiding, and Highland resistance that defines this area's history.
