Glen Coe Itineraries

Make the most of your time — whether you have a day, a weekend, or a week.

⚡ One Day in Glen Coe

Got a day? Here's how to make it count.

9:00am — Arrive via A82

Stop at the viewpoint layby opposite the Three Sisters for the iconic photo. If you only take one photo in Scotland, make it this one.

9:30am — The Lost Valley

Hike into Coire Gabhail (the Hidden Valley). 4km return, ~2.5 hours. Moderate difficulty. The secret valley where MacDonalds hid stolen cattle. Spectacular.

12:30pm — Lunch at The Clachaig Inn

Hearty food, 300+ whiskies, and the best climbers' pub atmosphere in Scotland. You've earned it.

2:00pm — Glencoe Visitor Centre

NTS centre with excellent exhibits on the Massacre, geology, and wildlife. Gift shop. Allow 45 minutes.

3:00pm — Glencoe Lochan

Peaceful 1-hour walk around the lochan through Japanese-style woodland planted by Lord Strathcona. Perfect reflections on calm days.

4:30pm — Massacre Memorial

Pay your respects at the Celtic cross in Glencoe village, then drive the Glen Etive road if time allows.

🏔️ A Weekend in Glen Coe

Day 1 — The Glen

Follow the one-day itinerary above. Stay at one of the glen's accommodations — a lodge with a hot tub, a cosy B&B, or the legendary Clachaig Inn.

Day 2 — Go Higher

  • Fit walkers: Tackle the Pap of Glencoe (742m, 3-4h) for 360° views, or Buachaille Etive Beag for a quieter Munro experience.
  • Relaxed pace: Drive Glen Etive, swim in the river pools, lunch at the Kings House Hotel with its view of the Buachaille.
  • Rainy day: Ice Factor in Kinlochleven (indoor ice climbing + rock climbing), then pubs and whisky.

🗓️ A Week in Glen Coe & Beyond

Day 1-2: Glen Coe

As above. Lost Valley, Clachaig, visitor centre, lochan, Glen Etive.

Day 3: The Big Walk

Bidean nam Bian (highest in Glen Coe, 1,150m) or the Aonach Eagach ridge (experts only — Scotland's most exposed mainland ridge).

Day 4: Fort William & Ben Nevis

Visit Britain's highest mountain. Walk the tourist path (8-9h return) or just enjoy Fort William's shops, restaurants, and the West Highland Museum.

Day 5: Ardnamurchan or Glenfinnan

The Glenfinnan Viaduct (Harry Potter!), Loch Shiel, and the most westerly point of the British mainland.

Day 6: Isle of Skye Day Trip

2h drive to Skye. Old Man of Storr, Fairy Pools, Portree. Long day but unforgettable.

Day 7: Rest Day

Hot tub. Whisky tasting. Long pub lunch. A gentle walk. You've earned it.
