Glencoe Lochan Trail
Glencoe Lochan is a hidden gem just above Glencoe village — a tranquil artificial loch set among North American tree species, created in the 19th century by Lord Strathcona for his homesick Canadian wife.
The flat, well-maintained path loops around the lochan through a forest of spruce, pine, and larch that feels more British Columbia than Scotland. On calm days, the reflections of the Pap of Glencoe in the still water are extraordinary — it's one of the most photographed spots in the area.
Three waymarked trails of varying length start from the car park, but the lochan circuit is the classic. It's wheelchair-accessible for most of its length and perfect for families with young children or anyone wanting a gentle stroll in a beautiful setting.
Look out for red squirrels, woodpeckers, and the resident herons.
