Signal Rock & An Torr
This gentle woodland walk leads to Signal Rock, traditionally said to be the place where the MacDonalds of Glencoe lit fires to summon the clan in times of danger — including, legend has it, the night before the 1692 massacre.
The path winds through beautiful native woodland — oak, birch, hazel — managed by the National Trust for Scotland. It's rich in birdlife and wildflowers, and the dappled light through the canopy makes it a lovely walk in any season.
Signal Rock itself is a small rocky outcrop in a clearing, and while the historical claims are debated, the atmosphere of the place — knowing what happened in this glen — gives it a genuine power.
An Torr viewpoint, included in the loop, offers views down into Glen Coe. The whole walk is well-waymarked and suitable for families.
