Stob Coire nan Lochan
Stob Coire nan Lochan is one of Glen Coe's most dramatic walks, climbing into the magnificent cliff-rimmed corrie between Aonach Dubh and the main Bidean ridge. The approach from the glen floor is beautiful, passing through old woodland before opening into the spectacular amphitheatre of the corrie.
A small lochan sits in the corrie floor, dwarfed by the towering buttresses that surround it on three sides. This corrie is a mecca for ice climbers in winter, and even in summer the dark cliffs are imposing.
From the lochan, the path steepens dramatically up to the summit (1,115m), a subsidiary top of Bidean nam Bian. The views from the top are outstanding, and for those with energy and experience, the traverse to Bidean itself is a natural continuation.
